Pune has recently been rocked by two disturbing incidents of s*xual assault, raising significant concerns about public safety. Authorities are actively investigating both the cases, which involved deceptive tactics and violent attacks.
Representational ImageIn a particularly brazen incident in a posh Pune society, a 25 years old woman was allegedly raped by an individual posing as a courier delivery person. On Wednesday evening around 7:30 PM, the perpetrator gained entry to the woman’s residence by insisting on a signature for a non-existent courier. As the woman went to retrieve a pin, the man reportedly closed the door, assaulting her inside.
There are also reports that a substance may have been sprayed on her face, leading to her unconsciousness; however, this is still remaining to be verified by the forensic experts. Following the assault, the assailant reportedly took a selfie on the victim’s phone and left a chilling message, “I’ll be back”. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and have formed ten teams, including crime branch and zonal units, to work on the investigation. Two individuals have been detained in connection with this case and are currently being questioned.
Adding to the city’s unease, a 17 years old girl was s*xually assaulted by two unidentified individuals on a highway in the Daund area earlier this week. The incident occurred around 4:15 AM on Monday when a car, carrying the girl and three other women, stopped for a tea break.
While the driver was away from the vehicle, two men on a motorbike approached, threatened the occupants with sharp weapons and robbed them of gold jewelry. One of the assailants then pulled the minor girl from the car and s*xually assaulted her. Police are actively investigating this separate but equally alarming case.
These incidents underscore the importance of vigilance and highlight the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address and combat such serious crimes in the community.
