
Many Brits will opt against heading abroad this summer to instead visit one of the many beautiful seaside towns across the UK. Every corner of the nation boasts stunning resorts, offering golden beaches, traditional towns and coastal views.
According to Sykes Holiday Cottages, 63% of Brits will stay in the UK for their summer holiday this year. They delved into the data to find out which seaside town will be the most popular amongst tourists. The town is the most in demand destination on the Skykes Holiday Cottages site for the summer holidays, with bookings up by 4% compared to last year.
The data reveals that Whitby, in North Yorkshire, is the hottest town to visit this summer. It is loved for its combination of natural and historical attractions, including the harbour, coastline and Whitby Abbey.
Whitby's stunning coast gives amazing views and boast a number of beaches such as West Cliff Beach. The Cleveland Bay coastal path is also popular among visitors who can explire the beaches and local wildlife.
The charming town centre features cobbled and narrow streets. It also hosts a market which is often busy and bustling with both locals and tourists.
As well as giving an insight into the nation's history, Whitby Abbey reportedly inspired Bram Stoker's "Dracula". Fans of the story visit the attraction throughout the year.
Famous explorer Captain James Cook also began his seafaring career in Whitby. He was also born in the village of Great Ayton, located just a few miles from the seaside town.
As reported by Time Out, James Shaw, managing director of Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: "It's no surprise to see Whitby leading the way for school summer holidays this year.
"Its mix of natural beauty, rich history and family-friendly activities continues to draw visitors, both with and without children, from across the country.
