Newcastle have had a disappointing window so far, and Eddie Howe will need to work miracles to turn the tide on Tyneside. The Magpies have big plans for the coming weeks, with reinforcements eyed at both ends of the pitch.
However, if Newcastle's struggles continue then a disastrous week could be on the horizon. Express Sport takes a look at the worst-case scenario for the next seven days at St James' Park ahead of the start of their new Premier League season...
Alexander Isak takes action
The Isak saga is already a messy one, and matters could definitely go from bad to worse. The striker is desperate to join Liverpool and has not taken kindly to being told that he won't be sold this summer by the higher powers at Newcastle.
The Magpies insist that he won't play until he comes to terms with the situation, but that could spark further drama if Isak decides to put a formal transfer request in and goes on strike by refusing to train.
Yoane Wissa deal collapses
Talks are back underway between Newcastle and Brentford over a deal for Yoane Wissa. The forward is keen to join the Magpies and play Champions League football, but it would be no real surprise if other clubs are alerted to the situation and look to pounce - especially as Tottenham and Nottingham Forest have shown a strong interest previously.
Striker search falls short
Newcastle are at risk of heading into next season without a marquee No. 9 if they are unable to prevent their relationship with Isak from souring any further. William Osula has led the line for the Magpies in pre-season, but his lack of experience will be a concern for Howe, and Wissa - if signed - is best suited playing alongside a focal point. Newcastle will be hoping to progress in their search for an out-and-out striker sooner rather than later.
Malick Thiaw hijack
It would be close to ridiculous for Newcastle to have another of their pursuits hijacked this summer. But it is hard to rule anything out for the Magpies, and they will be hoping to wrap up talks with AC Milan for Malick Thiaw as soon as possible to prevent missing out on the defender. A host of European sides have been linked with the centre-back previously and thus it would be no surprise if any arrived at the negotiating table or if Milan get their wish to keep the player.
