It is no secret that Marcus Rashford has tarnished his Manchester United legacy over the last few seasons, but he is now showing that he is keen to bow out on a positive note - even if he never plays another game for his boyhood side.
The forward has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim and his future lies elsewhere this summer, with the Red Devils open to selling their academy graduate for a fee in the region of £40million.
Aston Villa snubbed the chance to sign the 27-year-old for that figure after his loan spell at the club, but Barcelona and a host of other European outfits, including Bayern Munich, are now closely monitoring his situation.
Signing Rashford will be a risk regardless. His wages, lack of form and the scrutiny he is under may be viewed as a chance not worth taking - but he is single-handedly showing that he is worthy of another opportunity at the top level.
Despite United making it clear that he is not part of Amorim's plans, Rashford has continued to train at Carrington in order to stay fit and ensure that he can hit the ground running at his next club. The Sun reports that the forward, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Antony were all informed that they could use the facilities, but they are under no obligation to do so.
But rather than extending his summer break, Rashford has opted to take the opposite route in a clear signal that he has adopted the mentality of a player with a point to prove, both to himself and the footballing world.
His mindset has been questioned in recent years, but Rashford appears keen to highlight that the summer holidays have helped him regroup and refocus. He must ensure that he is at the top of his game next season if he is to stand any chance of breaking into Thomas Tuchel's England team ahead of next year's World Cup, and his Carrington training sessions will hold him in good stead.
With United's other 'for sale' stars seemingly taking up the chance to have an extended break, Rashford could quickly become the most attractive item in Old Trafford's shop window if he continues to go above and beyond behind the scenes.
