Jane Morgan dead: Broadway legend and widow of Jerry Weintraub dies aged 101

American singer Jane Morgan has died at the age of 101. She was a regular on Broadway and best known for her frequent TV appearances in the 1950s and 60s, notably on The Ed Sullivan Show. She tied the knot with producer Jerry Weintraub in 1965 but separated in the 1980s, never divorced, and then got back together. Jane reportedly died of natural causes in Naples, Florida. Her family announced her death, stating, "Our beloved Jane passed away peacefully in her sleep."

The singer was known for her various credits on shows from the Golden Age of the 1950s, and she is thought to hold the record for female singers appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show: 50 times in total. On Broadway, she was also a legend, appearing in Ziegfeld Follies in 1957, The Jack Benny Show (1963), and in the title role of Mame in 1968.

One of her signature tunes was Fascination which she released in 1957. It went to the Top 10 and was featured in the Gary Cooper-Audrey Hepburn movie Love in the Afternoon.

The song has also been used in the soundtracks of Diner, The Next Karate Kid, Call the Midwife, and Fallout. She had other hit singles such as "With Open Arms," "To Love and Be Loved," and "Blue Hawaii."

In 1962, she found a new manager named Jerry Weintraub, who would later become one of the biggest music managers in the world with clients such as Elvis Presley and John Denver.

Jane married Morgan in 1965, where she became a stepmother to his son, Michael. The pair also added three adopted daughters to their family: Julie, Jamie and Jody.

The American singer received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011. She is survived by her son Michael Weintraub, and daughters Jamie and Jody, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Jerry died in 2015 aged 77.

Tributes have begun flooding in for the star, with one writing on X: "#RIP Jane Morgan. The elegant singer dazzled audiences in Paris nightclubs and on just about every TV variety show of her era and had a hit record with the lovely standard "Fascination." None other than Johnny Mathis said she had the "voice of a goddess."

Another penned: "Jane Morgan, the renowned American singer whose captivating performances graced Paris nightclubs and the Oscars, has passed away at 101 in Florida, leaving behind a legacy of smooth melodies and international acclaim that shaped the mid-20th-century music scene."
