James Whale issues apology moments into show after learning he has 'weeks to live'

TalkTV star James Whale has issued an apology moments into his latest weekly show after learning he has just "weeks left to live". The Express columnist hosts his podcast The Tales of the Wales with his wife Nadine Lamont where he gives fans an insight into his health battle with terminal cancer. The broadcaster was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer back in 2019 and told his fans in May that he had stopped treatment and was "at the end of his cancer journey".

This week, the 74-year-old TV presenter revealed that doctors had originally said he had 12 weeks "maximum" left to live, and now seven of those weeks have passed. In a candid conversation with Nadine on July 19th edition of the show, James opened the show by issuing an apology. He began: "First of all, I'm sorry for being grumpy, okay? I can't breathe, I can't think, I can't talk. Anyway, welcome to Tales of the Whales. I have terminal four cancer and I told everybody I had 12 weeks to live, which apparently I don't."

Nadine offered: "Well, you were told that a few weeks ago, like seven weeks ago. And that was the maximum, so we don't know where we are. But you're getting a bit confused about things, so now you've been telling everyone it's 12 days, which isn't the case.

"I don't think there's any point in trying to quantify it, we'll just run with it and see what happens and try and make the most of what time we've got."

Later on in the show, the couple revealed they were forced to make the difficult decision to stop visits from everyone except "very close friends and family" from this week.

His wife explained: "You have said now you are getting quite tired, so from next week we're restricting visitors to just very close friends and family. That's it."

The TalkTV star, who recently filmed his "final interview", added: "The most tiring thing I've found - I still can't hear very well, which is more frustrating than anything else - but I've become very slow in my speech and forgetful."

James now has a tumour pressing down on his temporal lobe, as well as cancer in his kidney, spine and lungs - which his wife thinks is affecting his memory, as well as causing swelling and leaking in his legs.
