ITV has revealed the first-look images for an upcoming thriller, Coldwater. Starring The Walking Dead actor Andrew Lincoln and Obsession actress Indira Varma, the six-part thriller is due to launch this autumn. Set in the fictional Scottish village of Coldwater, and filmed in and around Glasgow, the series follows Andrew's character John at the centre of unsettling incidents, as his past trauma comes back to haunt him.
Having moved himself and his family to the rural idyll of Coldwater to get themselves as far away from London as possible, John finds himself resenting his repression and mundane life as a stay-at-home dad in middle age, with his secret rage threatening to upend his life as he knows it. After an identity crisis in London which saw John fail to intervene in a violent confrontation in a playground, he hopes for a calmer future for his family, only to find more disturbances arise in Coldwater.
There, he's quickly befriended by next-door neighbour Tommy, played by Ewen Bremner, a charming, confident man and devoted husband to the local vicar Rebecca, played by Eve Myles.
On the outside, he is a man of faith, a pillar of the community and self-appointed leader of the village's all-male book group.
And though at first impressed and slightly fascinated by Tommy, John finds himself caught in his web.
Meanwhile his wife Fiona, played by Indira, despises him after the move to Coldwater as an opportunity to leave the past behind them failed to reignite the spark in their fading marriage.
When her husband's relationship with their enigmatic new neighbour becomes increasingly intense, Fiona's suspicions are aroused and she becomes unconvinced Tommy is all he seems to be.
When John's long-repressed rage comes to a head with disastrous results, he soon finds himself unexpectedly indebted to his new friend, unaware that Tommy himself is harbouring horrifying secrets.
It's only after a series of unsettling incidents start to occur that John begins to wonder who the real Tommy actually is.

The synopsis teases: "This is the story of a normal man, in a normal marriage, who finds himself in a far from normal situation.
"A man who discovers a newfound sense of his own power, right at the moment he falls under the influence of someone incredibly dangerous."
Coldwater is written, created and executive produced by David Ireland with Lee Haven Jones (Doctor Who) directing the first three episodes and Andrew Cumming (Shetland) the second half.

Creator David previously said in a statement: "Cold Water started with a question I was asking myself. Where do I want to live - the countryside or the city? Such an innocent beginning, but from it came this dark, funny, twisted thriller.
"I was delighted when Sister loved the script and thrilled when ITV decided to commission it.
"And I'm amazed we've managed to attract such a peerless cast, led by the formidable Andrew Lincoln. I hope viewers will find it intoxicating."
Coldwater will air on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV player this autumn.
