Hash browns are such a handy staple to have in the freezer. These crispy golden triangles of potato make an excellent addition to breakfast or brunch, especially when topped with eggs or avocado or served as part of a full English.

However, if you're a fan of a breakfast taco, you might not know that you can actually use a hash brown to fill with your favourite ingredients - and it's so easy to do. Recipe creator Emily Scott, also known as What I Ate For Breakfast, recently shared a recipe on TikTok for smashed hash brown tacos. To make them, all you need to do is one simple step before putting the hash browns in the oven.

By taking the hash browns out of the freezer and allowing them to defrost before flattening them with some cheese, they'll come out of the oven or air fryer so crispy and round - perfect for topping with eggs, sausages, avocado or anything else you fancy.

Emily said: "Loaded with fried eggs, avocado and a drizzle of hot honey, these crispy hash brown & parmesan breakfast tacos are quick, easy and totally delicious."

Fans in the comments were quick to point out how delicious the recipe looked, with one person saying: "Oh this looks so good but so simple, I'm trying this."

Another person said: "Looks banging."

Here's everything you need to make it.

Hash brown breakfast tacos

Method

Grab a lined baking tray or air fryer tray and place the grated cheese in two small round piles. Defrost two hash browns from the freezer, then using your hands, press them down on to each circle of cheese so that they're totally flattened into it.

On top of each hash brown, grate a little more cheese.

Cook in the air fryer or oven at 180C for around 15-17 minutes, flipping half way through, until the hash browns are golden and crispy.

Take them out and top with your favourite ingredients. In this recipe, Emily used smashed avocado, a fried egg, a drizzle of hot honey and some chilli flakes for added spice.
