GB News breakfast hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ellie Costello were left speechless after a former political advisor ripped into Rachel Reeves and the Labour government's lack of "competency" over the last 16 months.
It comes amid reports the chancellor is considering more than one hundred separate tax and spending measures as she barters with the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) over the size of the financial shortfall. She is understood to be looking to target those earning more than £45,000 to close her £30 billion fiscal gap, but government sources say, "there is considerable uncertainty" over the level of tax rises that would be needed to cover the shortfall.
Former Political Advisor Oscar Reddrop slammed Labour over the amount of uncertainty around which taxes will be raised in the upcoming budget which is due in the next three weeks. He suggested it will be the UK taxpayer being forced to bail out Labour.
He began, "The reason why we're in this position now, is we have have 16 months or so of a Labour government, that despite their best efforts, are solely applying the pressure on the previous Conservative government.
"It's 14 years of this and 14 years of that but they have been unable to inject any growth or productivity into the UK economy."
Oscar claimed Labour have not had the "bottle to slash welfare spending".
He quizzed: "So what does that mean? Rachel is going to come with her bucket and knocking on all of our doors asking for more money, in essence to bail out this Labour government."
Oscar added, "it's thoroughly depressing" and suggested the chancellor will look to raise taxes for those earning £45,000 or more.
GB News viewers reacted as one fumed: "It's because they are governing through the populous opinion. They keep peeling these to see what plays well because in the end they know if they increase wealth tax with uk as it is they will leave and we would be buggered."
Another vented: "Rishi told us that taxes would have to go up. She should have listened to him. How can we cut our broken services further? They're already cut to the bone."
Meanwhile, John Healey, defence secretary, declined to confirm whether the government would stick to its manifesto pledge not to raise income tax, national insurance or VAT.
He told Sky News's Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips programme: "That's for the budget and that's for the chancellor to announce at the end of the month."
