The Duchess of Edinburgh has stepped out with the Duke of Kent as she honours the war dead on Remembrance Sunday. The Duchess of Edinburgh, 60, has joined senior royals in attending the National Service of Remembrance in Whitehall this morning.
Prince Edward's wife is one of the royals who frequently attend the moving event every year, watching proceedings from the balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office overlooking Whitehall. She has been joined on the balcony by The Duke of Kent - cousin to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
As well as watching the procession, Sophie is also watching the senior men of the Royal Family, led by King Charles, lay wreaths at The Cenotaph memorial.
As she watched her husband Prince Edward, The Duke of Edinburgh, lay a wreath, Sophie could be seen wiping away what appeared to be a tear.
She is wearing three poppies.
The service today will see some 10,000 veterans march past the memorial, as well as a two-minute silence.
Queen Camilla and Princess Kate are also watching the event from the centre balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office overlooking Whitehall.
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are watching from another balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
The event is attended by the Royal Family every year.
Duchess Sophie always appears moved at the event, and was even seen last year comforting Princess Kate.
The sweet moment was caught on camera at the 2024 event, with Sophie seen affectionately placing a hand on Kate's back as they turned to head inside at the conclusion of the Remembrance Sunday service.
