Families looking for a "beautiful" woodland walk are spoilt for choice at this time of the year. The British countryside really comes into its own in the autumn months, as the landscape erupts into vibrant red, yellow and orange shades. One popular choice is Sheffield Park and Garden, in Uckfield, East Sussex.
The National Trust park offers "acres of Grade I listed landscaped garden and lakes, surrounded by historic parkland and woodland." In a recent video showcasing the park, TikTok user @axelleoe told viewers her video was "your sign to go to Sheffield Park this autumn." Her caption added: "The most beautiful park."
Anyone planning a trip to the park should note that entry is free for National Trust members. However, there is an entrance fee for non-members. According to the National Trust website, an adult ticket costs £18. Children, family, and group tickets are also available. Parking is free for all visitors.
Sheffield Park and Garden has over 800 excellent reviews on TripAdvisor, where it is ranked as one of the most popular attractions in Uckfield. One impressed visitor wrote: "We went to Sheffield Park to explore the Autumn colours, as we do every year.
"It was fabulous as ever, but what caught my attention this year was the array of fabulous toad stools. Always a joy of a visit."
Another fan said: "Have visited many times over the years, and each time the plants and flowers look different. From the stunning rhododendrons to the spectacular autumn colours, a visit at any season will be rewarded.
"Great for families and couples, there are plenty of benches to rest and grass banks by the lakes for a picnic. Most of the paths are on the flat and wheelchair accessible and toilets situated by the entrance."
A reviewer added: "This is one of the most beautiful parks we've visited. It can get quite busy in autumn when it offers the most amazing display of autumn colours. Much more tranquil in the summer but just as pretty."
Someone else echoed the advice, writing: "Perfect in autumn. This is such a calm and peaceful place, ideal for autumn when the maples and other exotic trees change colour. Be warned, however, that during this season, the queues for the car park mean it's essential to book in advance and to be prepared for a long wait.
"We were very lucky, not having known to book in advance, to find a parking space near the entrance very quickly. Despite not having advance tickets, they did take our money and let us walk around, so it's possible if you are able to park. The station is very close by and that's probably a better bet in this busy season."
The postcode for Sheffield Park and Garden is TN22 3QX.
