Berhampur: Ahead of Diwali, crackers worth Rs 5 lakh were destroyed after a massive fire broke out in two makeshift outlets on the outskirts of Rambha town in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday.
According to sources, it took the fire tenders around 90 minutes to douse the flames in the rains. Though the shops were gutted, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, Fire Service personnel are suspecting a short-circuit.
These outlets were opened by two persons two days ago after obtaining a licence from the Ganjam administration to sell crackers for Diwali. The administration has issued more than 400 licences for sale of crackers.
