Richard Madeley halts GMB to make Dani Dyer plea after Strictly chaos

Send Push

Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Madeley has made a plea to viewers over Love Island winner Dani Dyer pulling out of Strictly Come Dancing last night. The reality star, 29, announced yesterday that she was forced to quit the show after breaking her ankle.

The devastated star wrote on Instagram: "I had a fall on Friday in rehearsals and landed funny. I thought I had rolled my foot but it swelled up badly over the weekend and after an MRI scan yesterday, it turns out I have fractured my ankle.

"Apparently doing the quickstep on a fracture is not advisable (!!) and the doctors have said I am not allowed to dance so l’ve had to pull out of the show. To say I’m heartbroken is the biggest understatement. I am so going to miss dancing with Nikita but will of course be watching closely and cheering all the couples on."

Today on Good Morning Britain, hosts Richard and Susanna Reid were set to discuss the sad Strictly news when Richard stopped to share a message with viewers at home.

"We all know that worse things could happen but do a spare a thought for Dani Dyer," he said before throwing to entertainment correspondent Richard Arnold. "She's been on Strictly for five minutes and she breaks her ankle."

Richard Arnold then went onto share Dani's statement, before revealing that he was yet to hear back from the BBC on whether she'll be replaced. "Isn't it a bit late for a replacement?" Richard Madeley said. "They've started."

However, ex contestant Susanna was hopeful - revealing that Jamie Laing was replaced after injuring himself while filming the launch show back in 2019.

"Well Jamie Laing was injured during the recording to pre-launch show back in 2019 - he was unable to continue and was replaced by Kelvin Fletcher," she said. "That was at this stage."

Dani was paired with professional Nikita Kuzman during last weekend's launch show with the pair set to dance the Quickstep in Saturday's live show.

Yesterday, BBC Studios Executive Producer, Sarah James, said in a statement: "Dani has brought so much passion, joy and enthusiasm to Strictly, and her partnership with Nikita was off to the most sensational start.

"Everyone on the show is incredibly sad that she's no longer able to compete in this year's series. We send her all our love and best wishes for a swift recovery, and we very much hope to welcome her back to the ballroom in the future."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
