Matheus Cunha says he does not feel the pressure of hauling fallen giants Manchester United back to the top after last season's disastrous campaign. United signed Cunha for £62.5million and followed that up with the £71m capture of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford to strengthen Ruben Amorim's squad.
Cunha scored 12 Premier League goals last season and there will be a huge onus on him to solve United's goalscoring crisis, but the 26-year-old played down the pressure.
“I really think the pressure at this club is not really pressure it's a privilege, because this is one of the biggest clubs in the world,” said Brazil star Cunha.
“When Ruben comes to me and shows all the pressure that I have to help put the club back in the perfect times again, I feel like it's a challenge that I want to do for me and my career.
“United is always one of the clubs that needs to be there and to be someone who can be a part of the process is something that, like I say, is a big privilege.

“So I don't think about being perfect at the start, honestly. I think to be myself and to help the team. I have started to feel that I'm part of the group, we start to do everything very well and then start thinking about doing everything well.
“So I'm very comfortable to be here, I'm very comfortable with the pressure right now, and I hope everything can be better too - don't think about the bad times.”
Asked why he chose United, when he could have joined a club that could offer him Champions League football next season, Cunha said: “United was always my dream club and when you can make a dream come true, it's an easy decision to make.
“But of course he [Amorim] was one of the big parts, he talked to me always, and then showed how important I am for him, and of course I felt very well about that.”
Earlier this week, Bryan Mbeumo said he's overjoyed to have the chance to follow in Cristiano Ronaldo's footsteps at the “biggest club in the world”. After seven weeks and some tense talks between the clubs, the 25-year-old finally completed his move from Brentford on Monday for £65million plus a potential £6million in add-ons.
Mbeumo has signed a deal until 2030, with the option of a further season, at what he calls the “club of my dreams” – one whose shirt he wore as a kid growing up in France. “From the start I wanted to join this club, this massive club, and now I’m here and I’m just really happy,” the Cameroon international told club media.
“For me, it’s the biggest club in the world, in England as well. I think the fans are crazy, the stadium is amazing, and I think every player wants to play here. I think my first top was a Manchester United top with Ronaldo behind. It’s just such a big club and, yeah, I’m really happy to be here.”
Mbeumo says he idolised Ronaldo and Lionel Messi growing up, as well as admiring Neymar and Eden Hazard, and joins Cunha in bolstering what has been a blunt United attack. The forward says the Brazil international will “bring something new” to a team that he is excited to get to know better when they head to the United States for their pre-season tour on Tuesday.
“I think it’s really important for me joining a new club,” Mbeumo said. “It’s important to create links as soon as possible, automatism as well with the team-mates, so in and out the pitch.
“The spirit is really important. Yeah, create a group, being involved as soon as possible, for me, it’s something really important.”
