An energy giant will call game, set and match on soaring energy bills by serving up 16 hours free electricity to power Wimbledonfinal parties.
EDFwill be amping up the tennis fever for viewers enjoying the spectacle at home by offering a 'Free Electricity Day' on Saturday. This means headline finals matches, eagerly watched by those donning white, sipping fizz and scoffing strawberries, could be enjoyed for free in addition to other matches that weekend. A whopping 29million Brits plan to tune into the finals from home, with eight in 10 saying they'll be bringing centre court vibes to their homes and 22% hosting loved ones, according to EDF research.
Six in 10 (59%) cited cost as the main reason they'll be watching from home, with sofa spectating potentially saving people an average of £570. This is compared to average spends on event tickets (£235), travel to and from the event (£108) and food and drink for the whole day (£88).

To build the at-home SW19 viewing vibe, those hosting plan to buy 'picky bits' (42%) strawberries and cream (41%) and fizz (23%). A dedicated quarter (24%) will be putting up themed decorations and a staggering 88% even plan to sport tennis whites for the occasion.
A whopping nine in 10 (92%) say they'll be powering extra appliances to get the party started. From doing more cooking (44%), bringing out back-up fans/heaters (34%), powering extra fridges (28%) and projectors (19%) and keeping the TV on for longer than usual (34%), electricity costs could soon add up.
To help Brits ace their at-home watch parties, EDF is giving customers up to 22 hours of free electricity for the highly anticipated weekend. Customers already signed up to EDF's June Sunday Saver Challenge are able to earn up to 16 hours of free electricity on Sunday for reducing their use during weekday peak hours (4-7pm) the week prior (week commencing June 30).
The energy giant has already given out nearly 10 million hours of free electricity, saving the nation more than £2million since launching Sunday Saver. In addition to Sunday Saver, EDF is also offering every customer who registers for the next Sunday Saver challenge a Free Electricity Day on Saturday.
This means headline finals matches could be enjoyed for free on top of other matches across the weekend. Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF, said: "One of the biggest weekends for British sporting events is around the corner and we know from our research a lot of people will be entertaining at home with family and friends.
"The research showed that cost is a key factor as to why so many Brits are choosing to tune in from home and turning their living rooms into their own personal court viewing spaces.
"That's why in addition to our Sunday Saver offer, which customers are already making the most of and can earn up to 16 hours of free electricity on Sunday, we're also giving all customers a Free Electricity Day on Saturday.
"It means people can power their parties, chill their drinks and enjoy the action without worrying about electricity bills."
