EastEnders fans in tears as Ben and Callum call it quits in heartbreaking scenes

Send Push

Jonno Highway's funeral spiralled into chaos during tonight's episode of EastEnders, as Ben Mitchell found out that his husband Callum was having an affair while he was in prison.

Last night, Max Bowden reprised his role as Ben Mitchell, who had left prison on day release to attend his father-in-law's funeral, leaving Callum and Johnny in shock. Callum greeted his husband Ben with a kiss on the lips, but it wasn't long before he revealed all about his affair with Johnny Carter.

As the Mitchells and Highways headed to the Vic for Jonno's wake, the guilt was eating Callum alive, as he headed over to tell Ben he'd been unfaithful. Of course, Ben was left heartbroken, as were the Ballum fans.

Ben demanded his husband told him who the affair was with, but Callum refused. However, he didn't need to tell him, as Ben worked out it was Johnny straight away.

He then headed over to attack Johnny, but was held back by Callum's brother Staurt, who also made his way back to Walford for the funeral. Ben was then left feeling betrayed when he found out his mother Kathy Beale and father Phil Mitchell had known about the affair.

In the middle of the Vic before going back to UK prison, Ben announced that himself and Callum were getting a divorce four years after they tied the knot.

It came after Ben and Callum were both left in tears after Ben asked his husband if Johnny made him a better person like he did with him. Ben then couldn't hold it together when Callum admitted he was in love with Johnny.

The couple have been a fan favourite since they got together in 2019, but now, it looks like it really is the end of an era.

Fans were left in tears at the end of the episode as Ben returned to prison, laying down on the bed in tears with no one to turn to.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan penned: "Why do I feel bad for Ben," alongside a tear emoji.

Another wrote: "That last moment was heartbreaking - Callum confirming the answers to Ben's questions but with a hint of hesitancy indicating he knows that he's in the wrong but also feeling a sense of loneliness and isolation. Callum doesn't know to handle this situation."

However, others are hopeful the couple will mend things, with one writing: "there’s definitely still love there on both ends and they will 100% come through this- we just have to be patient."

Spoilers for tomorrow night reveal that Kathy and Julie persuade Phil to visit Ben, but will he go and how will the conversation go down?
