This partnership between AIIMS and TU Dresden is not an ordinary agreement. This is a revolution that will change the way patients are treated in the coming times. Surgery is no longer limited to doctors only, but will become safer, smarter, and more successful in collaboration with technology.

AI and Robotics in Surgery: Can you imagine that in the future, doctors will wear glasses and scan the patient's body from inside, or robots will perform surgery without much cutting? This is not science fiction, but is now going to become a reality, that too in India. AIIMS Delhi has now started developing such a system in collaboration with Germany's famous university, TU Dresden. In which treatment and surgery will become easy, fast, and safe with advanced technology like AI, robotics and extended reality.
A historic agreement has been signed between AIIMS Delhi and Germany's TU Dresden University. Under this partnership, both the institutions will now work together to use advanced technology such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Extended Reality (XR) and Robotics in surgery and treatment in the field of healthcare. A three-day workshop was held in Delhi between 16 and 18 July, in which doctors, engineers and health experts from both the countries participated. During this, a Letter of Intent was signed, which has opened the way for even bigger research projects and health innovation in the future.
How will AI and robotics help in treatment?
- AI means putting human-like thinking in machines. Doctors will now use this technology in diagnosis, surgery planning and real time operations.
- With XR (Extended Reality), doctors will be able to see the patient's body in 3D, which will make surgery safer and more accurate than before. With the help of virtual reality and augmented reality, doctors will be able to see the patient's organs in 3D imaging before the operation. This will make both training and surgery easier.
- Robotics – Along with this, special machines will work in robotic surgery. This will reduce the patient's pain, cutting and time spent in the hospital. This will speed up the recovery of patients and make complex surgeries easier.
What do doctors and scientists say?
AIIMS Director Dr. M. Srinivas said that this partnership is a prototype of the future of health technology. When India's clinical experience and Germany's engineering come together, the world will get a new model. TU Dresden 's Rector Professor Ursula Staudinger said that such a combination of medical and engineering can change the lives of patients.
What benefit does the common man get from this partnership?
- Treatment will be more accurate and better
- Poor patients will also be able to get advanced technology
- India will become a global leader in medical technology
- Patient recovery in less time
- Promoting startups and digital health innovation
- India-Germany relations become even stronger
- India's image as a global health model strengthened
Now this partnership will not be limited to workshops only. Both the institutes will jointly start pilot projects in areas like robotic surgery, smart diagnostics, remote monitoring in the coming time. This will give a new direction to the health startups of India and Germany.
