A golden opportunity has arrived for those dreaming of a job in the court. The Bombay High Court has issued a notification for recruitment to the post of Stenographer. The application process for this recruitment began on October 27, 2025, and candidates can apply online until November 10, 2025.
Applications can only be made on the Bombay High Court's official website, bombayhighcourt.nic.in. A total of 12 stenographer positions will be filled under this recruitment process. These recruitments are to fill vacant positions in various offices under the High Court.
What are the educational qualifications?
To be recruited as a stenographer, candidates must have a graduate degree from a recognized university. Those who have worked as a lower-grade stenographer in the High Court or other court for at least five years will be exempted from certain eligibility requirements. Candidates with a law degree will be given preference in the selection process. Additionally, a speed of 100 words per minute in English shorthand and 40 words per minute in English typing will be required. Candidates must also have passed the GCC-TBC course conducted by the Government Commercial Certificate Examination or MSCE, conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Examinations.
Age Limit and Salary
The minimum age for stenographer recruitment is 21 years and the maximum age is 43 years. However, candidates from reserved categories will be given relaxation in the upper age limit as per government regulations. Selected candidates will receive a salary ranging from ₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500 per month. In addition, they will also receive dearness allowance, travel allowance, and government benefits. This pay scale is in accordance with the Seventh Pay Commission. Candidates from all categories will also be required to pay a fee of ₹1,000 for the application.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
Selection for the position of stenographer will be conducted in three stages. The first stage will be a shorthand test, in which candidates will be required to take a dictation and transcription test. The second stage will be a typing test, in which the candidate's speed will be assessed, and the third stage will be an interview. A merit list will be prepared based on the scores obtained in all three stages. In the shorthand test, candidates will be given two English passages, with 5 minutes for dictation and 30 minutes for transcription. In the typing test, candidates will be required to type a 400-word English passage in 10 minutes. In the interview round, the merit list will be prepared based on the candidate's confidence and communication skills.
