Google: Now your Google Account will never be locked! The new 'Recover Contact' feature will help if you forget your password..

Send Push

Google has introduced a new feature for Android and Gmail account users called Recovery Contact. This feature will prove extremely useful for those who frequently forget their passwords or lose their phones. It allows users to add a trusted friend or relative as a contact for account recovery.

How will the new feature work?

Under this feature, users can add a friend or family member to their Google account as a "recovery contact." If your account gets locked or you forget your password, Google will send that contact a unique code. This code will allow you to verify your identity and log back into your account. This code will be valid for 15 minutes, meaning it must be used on time.

How to add a recovery contact to your account?

To do this, users must go to the Google account's security settings and select "Recovery Options." A new recovery contact can be added there. To do this, you must first send an invite to the person, and once they accept, that contact will be added to your recovery list.

A user can add a maximum of 10 contacts for recovery. However, if you recover an account using a contact, they will not be added to the recovery contacts list for seven days.

How much better than the recovery email and number?

Until now, Google has only offered email and phone number options for account recovery, but even these have remained vulnerable to threats like SIM swaps or phishing attacks.

The 'Recovery Contact' feature largely eliminates this risk because it involves direct human involvement. This means that even if your SIM card or phone number is hacked, your trusted contact can still help you recover your account.

The feature will soon be rolled out to all users.

Google has confirmed that this new security feature will be made available to all users in the coming weeks. This move is expected to improve both the security and user experience of Google accounts.
