PNB Revised Locker Charges: Punjab National Bank (PNB) has changed some service charges for its customers. According to the information released by the bank, these changes will be applicable from October 1, 2025. These include locker rent, stop payment instruction, standing instruction (SI) failure charge, and nomination charge.

Stop payment charge

A stop payment instruction means that if the customer has issued a cheque and wants to stop its payment. Till now, PNB charges ₹ 100 per instrument for this. At the same time, if instructions are given to stop the payment of three or more cheques simultaneously, then ₹ 300 is charged. According to the new rule, the charge per instrument will remain the same, at ₹ 100. But if instructions are given to stop the payment of five or more cheques, then a charge of ₹ 500 will be levied.

Big change in locker rent

PNB has made a big change in locker rent. The new rates will depend on the size of the locker and the location of the branch. The new rates will be applicable from the due date of the next annual rent.

Small Locker

Rural: ₹1,000 (no change)

Semi-Urban: ₹1,500 (earlier ₹1,250)

Urban/Metro: ₹2,000 (no change)

Medium Locker

Rural: ₹2,500 (earlier ₹2,200)

Semi-Urban: ₹3,000 (earlier ₹2,500)

Urban/Metro: ₹4,000 (earlier ₹3,500)

Large Locker

Rural: ₹4,000 (earlier ₹2,500)

Semi-Urban: ₹5,000 (earlier ₹3,000)

Urban: ₹6,500 (earlier ₹5,500)

Metro: ₹7,000 (earlier ₹5,500)

Very Large (V Large) Locker

Rural: ₹6,000 (no change)

Semi-Urban: ₹7,000 (earlier ₹6,000)

Urban: ₹8,500 (earlier ₹8,000)

Metro: ₹9,000 (earlier ₹8,000)

Extra Large (E Large) Locker

Rural: ₹10,000 (no change)

Semi-Urban: ₹10,500 (earlier ₹10,000)

Urban: ₹11,000 (earlier ₹10,000)

Metro: ₹12,000 (earlier ₹10,000)

One-time registration charge

A one-time registration charge is also taken while allotting a locker. Till now, it is ₹200 in rural and semi-urban branches, ₹500 in urban and metro. Whereas, under the new rule, it is ₹200 for all sizes in rural and semi-urban, ₹500 for small and medium lockers in urban/metro, and ₹1,000 for large, very large, and extra large lockers in urban/metro.

Standing Instruction (SI) Failure Charge

SI means automating any payment or transaction on the due date from the bank. Till now, if SI fails due to a lack of money in the account, then PNB charges ₹100 per transaction.

According to the new rule, a flat ₹100 + GST charge will be levied on failure every month. Whether it is a one-time failure or a three-time failure, the charge will remain ₹100 only. A maximum of 3 SIs (such as term loans, recurring deposits, etc.) will be allowed in a month.

Nomination charge

There is no charge for the first time for adding a nomination to an account or locker. After that, a ₹100 charge is levied for every change. According to the new rule, adding a nomination for the first time will be free. After that, a ₹100 charge will be levied for every change. But if the nominee dies, no charge will be levied for that.

What will be the impact on customers?

These changes will directly affect the pockets of customers. Especially in urban and metro cities, people will have to pay more money annually due to the increase in locker rent. At the same time, removing the charge per transaction on SI failure and making it a flat ₹100 may provide relief to some customers. Banking sector experts say that these new rates of PNB have been introduced keeping in mind the changing banking operation costs and market conditions.
