Pets often give signals that humans cannot understand properly. To solve this challenge, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) has established a new center, named the 'Jeremy Coller Center for Animal Sentience'. This center will start its work from 30 September 2025.

What is the specialty of this center?

This center aims to improve the emotional and behavioral understanding between humans and animals. Not only dogs and cats, but insects, shrimps, and sea creatures like cuttlefish will also be a part of this research.

This project has been prepared at a cost of about 4 million pounds (about Rs 42 crore). In this, experts from AI, neuroscience, computer science, biology, law, philosophy, psychology, and veterinary science will work together.

AI will translate the 'language' of animals.

Translator apps are being developed using AI technology that will be able to analyze the body language and sounds of pets and tell what they are feeling, such as happiness, fear, or anxiety.

However, this technology also has its limitations. Professor Jonathan Birch, director of the center, warned that AI is not always correct. An app claiming that your dog is happy may be a misinterpretation.

Will the dog say "take me for a walk"?

In the future, when AI becomes better, communicating with pets will probably become as common as talking to humans. But it is also important to understand the limitations of AI and the complexities of emotions.

This new center is considered a revolutionary initiative in this direction, which can take the relationship between humans and animals to new heights.
